Conflict-intervention strategy: The role of ergonomic design Abstract In the context of their profession, ergonimists must sometimes intervene in complex conflictual work situations. Their role then has to expand and a strategic process must be adopted that takes into account many variables outside their field of expertise. Using a real case, the researchers wanted to document an ergonomic design intervention carried out on a redevelopment project in a large company. Their observations were used to determine the conditions and ergonomic interventions required in such situations. They also provided a better understanding of the contribution of ergonomics to a negotiation process on changes to increase productivity, while maintaining the workers’ health and safety. This publication should enable companies to better orient their strategies to implement and integrate occupational health and safety into their project management. Ergonomists will have means to better plan and manage their actions in a conflictual organizational context.
