In summary, violence is a phenomenon caused by many factors, all of which must be examined to gain a better understanding of the phenomenon.
However, of all these factors, organizational factors appear to be of major significance in the emergence of violence.
It is often factors related to how the work is organized (e.g. lack of communication and transparency in the organization, little employee autonomy) that play a part in the emergence of violence. These factors place individuals in difficult situations and opposing roles (e.g. perpetrator and victim).
Moreover, the organizational aspect includes factors on which it is possible to act in workplaces, unlike societal factors, over which organizations have little power.
Yet organizations often tend to analyze the situation on a case-by-case basis and to attribute violence solely to personal factors. Thus they tend not to act on the source of the violence, but rather to wait for a crisis to occur before trying to resolve a conflict among the individuals concerned
When work organization is involved and it is not subject to review or questioning, episodes of violence risk recurring even after interpersonal conflicts have been resolved. .
