Improving and Promoting Respiratory Protection in the Workplace

Abstract

In some workplaces, employees may be exposed to chemical, biological, particulate or other harmful substances. When exposure cannot be controlled, the use of respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is essential. However, the use of respiratory protective equipment (RPE) poses significant implementation challenges in the workplace.

This program aims to study the efficacy of respiratory protection practices in terms of RPE effectiveness, use assessment and improvement. The research team will focus on the assessment and improvement of respiratory protection in the workplace. A second objective is to assess the design, performance and degradation of RPE in the laboratory, with a view to improving it. The final objective of the research team is to consolidate the IRSST’s expertise in respiratory protection in the field and to transfer this knowledge to the workplace.
