Overview of Occupational Health and Safety in Québec’s Agricultural Sector: the Case of Hog Breeders

Abstract

The aim of this project is to produce a first overview of occupational health and safety in the agricultural sector based on the case of Québec’s hog breeders.

The research team will evaluate numerous indicators of health and safety in this sector (for example, mental and physical health, and safe work practices) and determinants that emerged from several levels of analysis (worker; immediate-work, organizational and social environments) among Québec hog breeders. A questionnaire on the determinants of occupational health and safety in this sector and reflecting the reality faced by these workers will be developed and validated.

The overview obtained of the dynamics explaining occupational health and safety in the agricultural sector will reveal trends that are useful for orienting preventive actions in this sector.
