Criteria for safe installation of hauler and box support stations on lobster boats : joint development with fishers, test bench validation and implementation strategies Abstract Commercial fishing is one of the most dangerous industries for a variety of reasons, including the possibility of falling overboard. In two previous projects, researchers analyzed work tasks and the risks of falling overboard, as well as their determinants, and documented the activities and layout of the two main workstations on lobster boats. This research is intended to highlight the efficiency, safety and ergonomic benefits of specific hauler and box support layouts, formulate station design parameters and document the feasibility of implementing them when upgrading existing installations. The design parameters for the two stations in question will be useful to designers of future installations and fishers wishing to upgrade existing installations to make them safer.
