Fibrogenic and carcinogenic agents in Québec gold and iron mines: exploratory study Abstract American epidemiological studies show a health risk in gold and iron mine workers who may be exposed to elongated mineral particles (EMPs). The purpose of this research project is to assess the state of knowledge on the presence of EMPs in Québec gold and iron mines and determine the potential role of these particles in the etiology of occupational lung diseases and cancers. The findings may be useful in developing prevention management tools for the gold and iron mining industry.
