Evaluation of rolling motion-damping systems on Québec’s semi-offshore fishing boats Abstract Comparison of fatal accident statistics in the fishing industry to those of the other occupational categories reveals that fishing is one of the most hazardous professions. On board a ship, the work is performed under difficult conditions, on an exposed and slippery moving platform. For reasons of safety and ease of execution during the fishing operations, workers attempt to reduce the impact of ship movements by using stabilizations systems whose function is to limit the lateral and longitudinal movements caused by the sea.On the one hand, this project aims to inventory the stabilization systems for midshore fishing boats in operation in Québec, and on the other hand, to perform comparative safety and performance tests on the stabilization systems used in Québec.
