The costs of occupational injuries: a literature review Abstract In recent years, close to 110,000 occupational injuries are recognized annually by the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CSST, workers’ compensation board). These injuries lead to major costs for all of society, and as a result, it is important to evaluate them in order to estimate their economic impact. The IRSST does not have the specific tools for carrying out such an estimation. The main objective of this project is to review the scientific literature on the different economic approaches used for estimating the direct and indirect costs of occupational injuries. The results will identify the types of costs to be considered in developing economic indicators useful for determining the IRSST’s research priorities.
