Procedure for measuring and controlling manufactured nanoparticles Abstract While emerging nanotechnologies are opening promising avenues in several activity sectors, studies are suggesting that the nanoparticles that they generate could have negative effects, particularly on health and the environment. It is therefore vital that means of controlling these risks be found. The researchers’ objective is to establish an effective method for measuring, controlling and characterizing nanoparticles that is applicable to industrial manufacturing processes. Their ultimate goal is to develop a portable instrument allowing on-site detection of the nanoparticles produced in industry, to draw maps of the emissions from various industrial processes, and to transfer the nanoparticle production reduction strategies into it. The expected outcomes are the establishment of a standard for measuring nanoparticles, the improvement of air quality in the plants where they are present, and the training of qualified individuals in mechanical manufacture as well as in occupational health and safety.
