Studying and working in the regions at 18 years of age: What OHS risks? An exploratory study

Abstract

In the context of the IRSST’s research program on youth and occupational health and safety (OHS), the researchers are participating in a longitudinal study on the living conditions and needs of Saguenay and Lac St-Jean students 18 years of age in 2006 by adding questions that relate to OHS and to the constraints to which these young people are exposed in their compensated work. The researchers will then be able to develop their knowledge about these constraints and about their effect on accidents and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This will enable them to paint a picture of the young people’s jobs and the total organizational and physical constraints to which their jobs expose them, the accident scenarios and the importance of the MSD symptoms affecting this population. This project’s findings will make it easier to develop information and awareness campaigns as well as intervention strategies intended for young workers and their employers.
This study was jointly funded by the IRSST and the Programme d'aide à la recherche sur l'enseignement et l'apprentissage (PAREA) of the ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec.
