Work-related road accidents in Québec, 2000-2006

Abstract

Work-related road accidents (WRRA) are the primary cause of work fatalities in Québec. In fact, they represent 30% of the cases of mortality due to a work-related accident. A previous study determined the activity sectors that record the greatest number of these accidents, and the characteristics of the workers involved, the accident, or the injury. Although useful, it did not allow the circumstances of the accidents to be explored. The researchers will document this aspect as well as the risk factors associated with WRRA, including the road surface conditions, the type of road, signs and signals, the type of vehicles involved and their movements, visibility, weather conditions, and the main accident scenarios. By improving the understanding of WRRA, this project will promote the formulation of targeted preventive actions.
