Evaluation of the implementation and impact of the PRÉVICAP program

Abstract

Musculoskeletal injuries (MSI) made up 37.3% of the occupational diseases compensated in Québec in 2000, producing 40.7% of the amounts paid, or close to $170 million. Considering the situation, the CSST wants to obtain a scientific evaluation of the implementation of the PRÉVICAP rehabilitation program, currently being tested in four regions. The researchers will study the capacity of this program to meet the needs of workers risking prolonged disability as compared to conventional approaches, its effects on the probability of returning to work and its economic aspects. Analysis of its implementation will identify factors related to its satisfactory application: socioeconomic context, characteristics of the companies, and the degree of coordination between the players. This project will measure the effectiveness and profitability of the PRÉVICAP program, as well as determine the organizational modifications that could optimize the management of workers suffering from a musculoskeletal injury with a view to their rapid and permanent return to work. The conclusions of this study will provide the CSST with essential data for assessing the pertinence of generalizing the implementation of the PRÉVICAP program.
