Understanding and improving decision-making by interdisciplinary teams involved in the return to work of workers suffering from musculoskeletal disorders, and by their partners Abstract The therapeutic return to work, an innovative model for managing workers suffering from musculoskeletal disorders, is based on interaction and a consensus being established between numerous stakeholders: the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, the CSST rehabilitation consultant, the workplace, the worker and the physician. Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of comprehensive approaches, but up to now, the decision-making mechanisms that the stakeholders use as a basis for arriving at a consensus were not clearly established. This publication summarizes a research project whose aim was to document, by means of a case study, this particular means of decision-making, and to identify the strategies most likely to promote a successful return to work. It will be useful for partners who want to act in a more effective way in preventing prolonged disabilities, and to reduce the related economic and social costs as well as the loss of quality of life.
