Safety and scaffolding work in conventional formworking

Abstract

This research analyzes the safety of work at heights during conventional formworking, in order to clarify the basis on which equipment and materials used as work surfaces during such work are chosen. The results indicated the existence of a wide spectrum of equipment and materials. Some of these are poorly suited to the cramped confines of such work, and are capable of causing accidents by inducing a loss of balance. Analysis of the selection criteria for equipment and material used as work surfaces resulted in the development of usage criteria adapted to the various tasks. Recommendations concerning work planning and preparation and equipment design are presented, and if implemented, should improve the safety of work at heights.
