The use of computerised evaluations of ventilation systems to improve indoor air quality Abstract Many types of health complaints reported by occupants of airtight buildings are attributable to Inadequate ventilation and inadequate maintenance of ventilation systems. Information that could help resolve these problems exists, but can only be useful if it is transmitted to the appropriate people in a practical form.This project was devoted to the development of software to help building managers verify the operation and maintenance of ventilation systems, analyse ventilation systems and the areas they serve in order to ensure the delivery of adequate amounts of fresh air, identify needed improvements, and estimate the costs of improvements.The software uses information about a ventilation system’s operating parameters and maintenance practices, obtained in response to multiple-choice questions, to assess the system’s capacity to provide air of acceptable quality. This is complemented by detailed analysis of each of the system’s main components.
