The appointment of Louis Berlinguet as Chier Executive Officer coincided with the Institute’s shift toward worker safety and rehabilitation, compared to its first five years of activity when efforts were focused on the identification and correction of factors affecting worker health.

Amendments to the AOHS
The National Assembly amended the Act Respecting Occupational Health and Safety. In addition to defining OHS research priorities and needs and to conducting or sponsoring studies and scientific activities aimed at eliminating, at the source, dangers to worker health, safety and physical well-being, the CSST took on the new function of giving the l’Institut de recherche en santé et en sécurité du travail du Québec an annual grant.
Control and adverse effects of noise
Co-directed by Raymond Hétu and Jean Nicolas, a new associated research team at Université de Montréal and Université de Sherbrooke was recognized. Its mandate concerned the adverse effects of noise and appropriate control measures.
