The IRSST’s scientific director, Dr. Kannan Krishnan, is one of the authors of the 9th edition of the prestigious book Casarett & Doull’s Toxicology: The Basic Science of Poisons, recently published by McGraw-Hill.
Recognized worldwide as the gold standard in toxicology matters concerning chemical contaminants, this collective work has been entirely updated to reflect the latest breakthroughs and scientific discoveries. It contains 35 chapters divided into seven sections covering:
- the general principles of toxicology;
- the disposition of toxicants;
- non-organ directed toxicity;
- target organ toxicity;
- toxic agents;
- environmental toxicology; and
- the applications of toxicology.
More than one-third of the chapters of this most recent edition were written by scientists who are first-time contributors.
Dr. Kannan Krishnan authored Chapter 7 on toxicokinetics. In it, he describes the current state of science regarding the processes and models of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of chemical contaminants and the biological monitoring of human exposure to these contaminants.
The IRSST is delighted with the international prestige and visibility garnered by this contribution to the 9th edition of Casarett & Doull’s Toxicology: The Basic Science of Poisons, and salutes the excellent work of its scientific director.
