Development of a support tool for the acoustical design of machine enclosures Abstract By considering the 90 dB(A) legal daily exposure limit for noise, it is estimated that 400,000 Québec workers are at risk of hearing impairment. Although the enclosing of noisy machines is favoured for reducing noise exposure, the effectiveness of these isolating enclosures may be insufficient due to a lack of appropriate acoustical dimensioning. The scientific team developed acoustical design support software integrating a certain mechanical and geometric complexity and developed a research version. This tool should allow enclosure designers to better dimension their products by estimating their effectiveness beforehand.
