The Board of Directors of the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) unanimously approved a five-year scientific and technical production plan for 2013–2017 at its latest regular meeting. This plan is the result of numerous consultations held with our partners in the work and research communities to make certain that real OHS needs and emerging problems are taken into account in the workplace.
Welcoming the Board of Directors’ decision, IRSST president and CEO Marie Larue felt it important to underscore the role played by the representatives of employers, unions, and the scientific and technical community who sit on our Scientific Advisory Board. Their contribution helped ensure that the content of the five-year plan accurately reflected the research needs and priorities of Québec workplaces.
“In addition to meeting our partners’ and clients’ needs, this five-year plan was developed on the basis of statistical profiles of work-related injuries and deaths, results of scientific monitoring and surveillance, benchmarking in relation to major research centres elsewhere in the world, and the findings of an external evaluation committee. It seeks to address current and anticipated future problems, since we must also strive, through research, to prevent future work-related injuries,” specified Mme Larue as she released the document.
The plan, which builds on sustainable development principles, defines the research program for the next five years, but also sets guidelines for other aspects of the IRSST’s mission such as the laboratory services needed for the activities of the public occupational health and safety network and the transfer of knowledge to the workplace community.
