Exploratory study of musculoskeletal problems in film and video technicians: Occupational injuries, task requirements, work organisation, and time stress

Abstract

Unions and employers in the film industry, lacking data for establishing prevention priorities, asked the IRSST to investigate the musculoskeletal disorders and accidents in their industry and to formulate hypotheses as to their causes. This description of the occupational injuries and work organization on film sets and off the sets (studios, camera rooms, offices) considers the relationships between tasks, equipment, work organization (including schedules) and injuries in the groups targeted as being the most at risk. This publication is intended first for professionals and decision-makers who work in the field. It is designed in such a way that they can become informed and draw from the references and arguments. Some thirty technical and organizational recommendations are presented in relation to the main steps in cinematography, as well as general recommendations and research proposals.
