Detection of humans on the rim of mine buckets Abstract Miners working on the excavation of mine shafts reach their work site in buckets normally used to hoist ore from the galleries to the surface. Workers frequently stand on the rim of the buckets rather than well inside, which puts them at risk of a fatal fall should the bucket become unbalanced while in motion. The system designed and produced in this project transmits a signal to the hoist room as soon as it detects the presence of workers on the bucket rim (rather than inside the bucket), allowing the bucket to be brought to a controlled stop.
